Visa will continue to buy NFT after acquiring the token for $150k

Payments company Visa plans to continue buying non-exchangeable tokens (NFTs), Visa cryptocurrency head Kai Sheffield told Blockworks in an interview. According to him, the company will add NFT tokens to its collection in order to support authors working in the crypto space.

On August 23 it became known that Visa bought NFT token CryproPunk #7610 for $150 thousand. The company used the services of the first U.S. federal cryptocurrency bank Anchorage. Visa did not interact with Ethereum to purchase the token, but conducted the transaction using fiat currency. CryptoPunk #7610 is also held by Anchorage.

Within an hour of Visa’s purchase of the NFT token, the CryproPunks collection authors sold more than 60 NFTs. The cost of each token exceeded $200 thousand. According to CryptoSlam, as of 16:45 MSK on August 27 the daily trading volume of CryproPunks tokens is $31.8 million. For the last four days the indicator grew by 283%.

CryptoPunks is a collection of 10,000 digital avatars in the form of humans, monkeys, aliens and other creatures created as NFTs. The most expensive token from the collection is considered “Alien” #7523 (“Alien”), which was sold for $11.8 million at an auction at Sotheby’s in June this year.
