Visa announced the purchase of NFT-token for $150 thousand.

Visa payment system announced that it bought CryproPunk NFT token 7610 for $150 thousand on August 18. The company used the services of the first U.S. federal cryptocurrency bank Anchorage. Visa did not interact with Ethereum to purchase the token, but conducted the transaction using fiat currency. CryptoPunk 7610 is also being held by Anchorage.

The NFT CryptoPunks collection was launched in 2017 by Lava Labs. It includes 10,000 images, each one unique. In an interview with The Block, Visa cryptocurrency head Kai Sheffield described CryptoPunks as pioneering the technology and the wave of commercial application of NFT.

Visa reported high interest in NFT from merchants and brands. The company noted that it is creating tools for them to participate in the new field. The payment processor also published a report on the field of non-interchangeable tokens.

In March, Visa became the first of the major payment systems to begin conducting transactions in cryptocurrency. The company transferred USDC staplecoin using the Ethereum blockchain.

Also in early 2021, the payment giant announced the release of its own system (API) for buying cryptocurrencies, which will be integrated with banks. The launch of the product is scheduled for the end of the year. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies for the benefit of Visa customers will be stored by Anchorage depository.
