Uber will consider accepting payments in cryptocurrency, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi told CNBC. He said the company had already discussed the idea of buying bitcoins, but rejected it.

“We’re going to keep our money safe. We are not speculating,” Khosrowshahi said.

The company will explore the possibility of accepting payments in cryptocurrency and will pursue that option if it is beneficial. According to Khosrowshahi, Uber will not accept cryptocurrency “just for fun” or for the sake of its own advertising.

In late 2021, the Mastercard payment network announced the integration of cryptocurrency payments. For this purpose, the company has entered into a partnership with the cryptocurrency platform Bakkt.
